How Real Food Works
Almonds & Pistachios are a great source of protein, fibre and healthy mono-unsaturated fat (good fat). They are rich in essential proteins to repair muscle cells & support the immune system.
High in anti-oxidants, they contain a variety of vitamins and minerals (Vit E, manganese, B2, Magnesium & Potassium) which are proven to reduce the risk of heart disease, reduce cholesterol, help control blood-sugar levels, improve blood flow & delivery of oxygen & nutrients to your body - making them pretty handy for the endurance cyclist.
Honey is rich in anti-oxidants, Vit B6 & thiamine. It is a totally natural carbohydrate that can be rapidly absorbed to deliver an instant boost in strength, energy & performance. It is proven to enhance endurance & reduce muscle fatigue in athletes.
Wheat Flour includes all three types of valuable carbohydrate: sugars, starches and fibre. Natural sugars provide fast release energy, starches are good for slow release energy & fibre helps control blood-sugar levels & assists movement of real food through the gut. We use a very small amount of flour in our Classico and Di Bosco bars (less than 6g per 100g) and the Ciocco is flour-free (meaning it's free from gluten) so any Celiacs or riders with a gluten intolerance can still get their 100% natural nutrition requirements.
Unrefined Sugar means sucrose, the simplest carbohydrate, it's rapidly absorbed and provides fantastic energy exactly when you need it... not to be confused with the bleached kind, this one is full of golden goodness!

oxidants & good for your immune system.
Red Berries are a potent source of antioxidants, Vit C & fibre. Known for their anti-inflammatory properties these berries can provide an enormous boost of natural energy, morale and flavour.
Dates are rich in dietary fibre, antioxidants, vitamin A, iron, potassium and minerals. They help control heart rate & blood pressure & are great for your eye-sight too! Who knew? Dates are a veritable super-food.
Fairtrade cocoa gives more than just a feel-good taste, cocoa is high in carbohydrates, essential minerals, Vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, C, E and is also a mild stimulant, it has caffeine in it! Hence we love using our Ciocco bar when we do the essential mid-ride coffee-stop.
Cinnamon gives a heartwarming flavour and has natural anti-infectious compounds as well as containing fibre, calcium & iron.
Ginger wakes up your taste buds, is full of anti-oxidants & is well known to aid digestion.
Rosemary is a wonderful source of iron, calcium & Vit B6, hailed since ancient times for its medicinal properties. It is traditionally used to help alleviate muscle pain & boost the immune and circulatory system.
